Marketing your music for the masses is not an easy task. First off lets see what marketing is.Alot of people get marketing and promotion confused, though they do go hand in hand.Marketing is basically the way you present something, promotion is actually getting the word out! Follow me... Marketing your music is different for everyone.First you need to figure out who you are and what your sound represents.
Do you rap,sing, is your music aggressive ,do you have a pop sound, are you saying something important or just clowning. Whatever your sound is, it should reflect in your image or better yet the images you put out,cd covers, posters,web pics etc.People need to be intrigued and have a sense of what your music may sound like before they even listen to it. I know you heard the saying "Image is everything",it sometimes is! Great music is great music,but sometimes you need to sell your music through the images you put out, for instance have you ever heard a song that you thought was ok,but after you seen the video for it, you thought it was the bomb!{googleAds}

Notice the black shirt and junkyard, this pic has a hard look to it,almost like he's saying "WHAT You Looking at"!
Now look at B.O.B and the images that made him a worldwide star
Notice the difference , the bottom pics show a friendlier B.o.B, it also shows a guy that knows how to play the guitar. Wow you would have never known that by looking at the first pic.Also look at what he is wearing in the "Nothing on You" pic, it says a statement, "I'm different,just like my music". If you pay attention you will also notice the text, the text has a groovy font, it also says this is a light, mellow friendly song.
The lesson learned is that B.o.B was able to effectively market his music to the masses. How did he do it? He found who he was and what his music was, and was able to show us his music with visuals.
Every person on earth is different, just find out who you are and translate it in every detail through visuals. If you play instruments let poeple see it, are you a business person, take pics of you doing business, take everything about yourself and put it in a melting pot for people to see. Remember ,marketing your music is different for everyone,but if you do it right it can mean the difference between you staying local or going global!
Stay Sucker Proof!
